Module 1: Component Preparation and Manual Assembly
- Explain how and why lead forming is performed
- Determine the lead forming type and tools based on customer requirements
- Describe best practices for selecting leaded components
- Evaluate production requirements to determine the lead forming type and tooling for automatic and semi-automatic lead forming
- Implement a stripping method based on the type of wires used in your assembly
- Describe the manual insertion process
- Implement an insertion sequence to maximize efficiency
- Describe why and how clinching is performed
- Determine which of the three clinching methods should be used to meet customer requirements
- Select the proper lead cutting methods and tools
- Select the most effective soldering process based on production volume and PCA design
Module 2: Automated Insertion
- Describe the different types of automatic insertion machines
- Select the most effective and efficient automatic insertion machine
- Establish an insertion sequence to maximize efficiency
- Set the parameters and sequence for an automated insertion machine
- Select the most effective soldering process based on production volume and PCA design
Participants must complete the Final Exam with a passing score of 80% to access and download their IPC Manufacturing Engineer – Manual Assembly Certificate. Students may attempt the exam up to three (3) times. Please note that a third and final attempt is permitted after 24 hours of the second attempt.
