Module 1: General Standard Information and Requirements
- Identify scope and purpose of J-STD-001 standard
- Navigate J-STD-001 using table of contents
- Recognize product classifications
- Distinguish acceptable, process indicator, and defect conditions
- Demonstrate ability to read and apply criteria in J-STD-001
- Differentiate between System International (SI) and Imperial English Units of measurement
- Identify order of precedence
- Understand common terms used in J-STD-001
Module 2: General Materials, Soldering & Assembly, & Product Assurance Requirements
- Identify requirements for materials, including solder alloys and flux
- Identify components, tools, and equipment requirements
- Define solderability and requirements for component surface finishes removal
- Recognize thermal protection and handling parts requirements
- Identify soldering connection requirements and acceptance
- Describe product assurance requirements
- Describe rework and repair process requirements
Module 3: Wires, Terminals, & Component Mounting
- Identify basic requirements and acceptance for wire preparation and terminal mounting
- Describe requirements for soldering to terminals
- Distinguish requirements for jumper wires
- Differentiate between supported and unsupported holes
- Identify lead protrusion requirements
- Distinguish requirements for soldering through hole components

Module 4: Cleaning, PCB, & Conformal Coating Requirements
- Identify general cleanliness requirements
- Describe cleanliness designator
- Differentiate delamination, blistering, conductor separation, lifted lands, measles, and depanelization requirements
- Identify requirements for conformal coating, encapsulation, and staking
This course is ideal for operators, technicians, and other assembly line staff that need to effectively locate and apply the requirements stipulated in IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies.
IPC offers different instructional modalities to suit participants with different needs and preferences. This program is available in the following modalities:
Online-self-paced: Participants can access course materials on the IPC EDGE Learning Management System at any time and complete them at their own pace. However, organizations may set completion deadlines, as well as monitor the progress of the participants they register for a course.
Face-to-face Instructor Led (F2F): Instructors can stream course materials from the IPC EDGE Learning Management System at any time for presentation to a group of participants in a classroom setting. Participants receive access to the same version of the course in order to take assessments and follow along with the lesson if desired by the instructor or organization.
Face-to-face Instructor Led courses may only be purchased and taught by Certified IPC Trainers (CIT).
